LinkedIn to Power Martindale.com

The professional networking site, LinkedIn, has been intergrated into the Martindale-Hubbell website. According to, the Martindale website, the move will enhance its "the position of its Martindale-Hubbell® legal network as a networking destination for attorneys."

On his blog titled Real Lawyers Have Blogs, Kevin O'Keefe's explains that LinkedIn is being used to power a social networking function at the Martindale.com website.

"When you go to a law firm listing at Martindale, you'll see the LinkedIn icon to the right of the firm's name. Click on the icon and you'll be prompted to see employees in the law firm who may be in your LinkedIn network."

As part of the tie-in, Martindale will ask attorneys to share who is part of their LinkedIn network. This is an interesting issue as Martindale is part of LexisNexis Group owned bypublisher Reed Elsevier. On its own, LinkedIn would be prohibited from sharing this information without violating privacy laws.

As Kevin O'Keefe writes: "If LexisNexis collects the names and relationships in the network of its lawyer and law firm customers so as to include them in LexisNexis' data base, that'll be a coup."

The LinkedIn agreement follows are series of improvements to the Martindale site. Martindale ahd already begun to add more dynamics to its lawyer profiles with ratings and video.

Per the press release on the Martindale site, the apartnership also includes an agreement to distribute abstracts and links to Martindale-Hubbell articles and content within the LinkedIn network.

The press release also goes on to say that "the benefits of LinkedIn connections on martindale.com are supported by findings of a survey conducted by Leader Networks on behalf of LexisNexis that show attorneys are increasingly looking for online networks that meet their specific business needs."
